WULFRUN MACHINERY UPDATES FEBRUARY 2009

Wulfrun have purchased a  brand  new DMG 310 CNC turning centre. This machine incorporates Siemans legendary Siemanuk 410 control with the  Shopturn CAD/CAM package enabling quick and complex programming, directly at the machine.

A Haas CL 30 CNC turning centre has been purchased along with a Mori Seiki SL250 to accompany Wulfruns range of medium sized machines. Both these machines can cope with 75mm dia bar through the spindle and have the most recent fast menus to speed up programming.

Due to the increased requirement for precision milled parts, Wulfrun have invested in two Haas VFO vertical machining centres. Both machines benefit from our in-house CAD/CAM system meaning that complex forms can be programmed off-line, enabling down time for programming is kept to a minimum.

To compliment the equipment in our inspection department Wulfrun have purchased an Indetec hardness testing machine, capable of accurate readings in the Rockwell B and C range as well as Vickers, Brunell and UTS readings. This machine incorporates software to enable precise and repetitive readings, whoever the operator, and the facility to archive data and print results.

Extension of production facility

During the summer new facilities were constructed which have extended the production area by almost 30%.The additional space has been used to create a dedicated materials handling area to control theCompany’s extensive range of bar and studding and, in a separate area, finished product stocks. The creation of this area has, in turn, released space in the existing workshop to allow for additional CNC machinery to be installed as part of Wulfrun’s medium term plan to increase production capacity and improve manufacturing techniques. This is part of Wulfrun’s commitment to satisfy the quality critical requirements of its expanding customer base.

Sales Team Update

Wulfrun Fasteners have added the following positions to the sales team:

Sales Expeditor

Senior Sales Co-ordinator

Business Development Manager

These positions will help maintain and improve our current level of service to our customer base.

We will continue to look at expanding and improving the sale team at all times.

Production Team Update

Wulfrun have added the following positions to the team and we are sure this will enhance our production and manufacturing methods further.

Production planner

Senior estimator

We have also purchased a citizen 25 sliding head lathe and Mazak twin chuck turning centre.

The citizen will bar feed up to 32mm dia producing high tolerance precision parts coming off the machine complete. Milling and drilling operations can be performed within the cycle.

The Mazak can produce items from material upto 42mm dia and again using sub-spindle will produce finished items. With its 2HP driven tooling this machine is suitable for heavier milling and drilling operations.

Both these machines are suitable for small batch or high volume work.

The latest edition to Wulfrun’s machine capacity is Trisul Polygon Turning machine, this clever machine is used for milling flats on turned parts to produce features such as hexagon heads. It will machine 2,4 or 6 flats. This machine is suitable for nuts and bolts upto 60mm across flats.

Quality Team Update

We have recently appointed Mr David Sinclair as the latest addition to the inspection team.

David has been with the company for over 15 years, and has progressed through the engineering department. He is fully conversant with the products and the stringent quality requirements of the business and as such will bring invaluable experience to the inspection department.

Forever striving for continual Improvement, the Quality department at WSF have increased the flexibility of its testing & measuring equipment range with the addition of the following equipment.

QC220 ML15 Geometric optimax shadowgraph interface which allows us to check high integrity contours, forms, and PCDs with accuracy up to 5 microns.

NITON XRF XLT898 hand held spectrometer, this state of the art spectrometer allows instant PMI (positive material identification) of all incoming raw material, material issued to our production department, and of course finished components prior to despatch to our customers.

The spectrometer is capable of recognising over 400 different alloys within an average test cycle of 10-15 seconds. The XLT898 version is the most accurate hand held spectrometer on the market to date.

LK G90C CNC programmable Co-Ordinate measuring machine.

Uses the latest QCT hardware benefiting from renishaw probing with laser accuracy against ceramic measuring slide repeatability.

Allows us to measure complicated shapes and multi feature turned and milled components within an accuracy of 2 microns.

This machine has a teach facility which once programmed allow hundreds of components, to be measured by simply placing the component on the machine, without the need for the operator to manually move the probe from surface to surface.

The software enables the automatic printing of inspection reports, detailing any errors found once the CNC facility has finished checking each component.

The recent extension to the inspection department has now been completed, the commitment of the company to its new facility is apparent in the standard of the work completed both aesthetically for its visual impact during customer audit, and the message to all at WSF of the importance of the quality department in the eyes of all employees.
